Emily Parker

Associate Dean – Research (Science), Professor of Chemical Biology, Victoria University of Wellington

Emily is an award-winning scientist and professor, with an undergraduate degree in organic chemistry (University of Canterbury), and a PhD in bio-organic chemistry (University of Cambridge).  She was a postdoctoral fellow at Cambridge, worked at Massey University and University of Canterbury.  Currently, she’s a Professor of Chemical Biology (Ferrier Research Institute, Victoria University of Wellington), and a Deputy Director of the Maurice Wilkins Centre for Molecular Biodiscovery. In 2023 Emily took up a part-time secondment to the New Zealand Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment as Departmental Science Advisor.

Emily’s research involves various techniques, including natural product biosynthesis, protein evolution and engineering, molecular and structural biology. Her group examines molecular communication processes and synthetic biology approaches to biosynthesise, manufacture, and bioactive compounds.
