John McIntyre
Principal, Athfield Architects
John McIntyre is a Principal at Athfield Architects and an architect and urban designer with 25 years of international experience. John recently returned to NZ after 15 years in the US with Tryba Architects and KPF. His project experience includes master planning, architecture and workplace environments for the Google Boulder Campus, Clayworks – a 12-acre mixed-use campus in Golden, Colorado focused on innovation and sustainability and anchored by the HQ for technical ceramics manufacturer CoorsTek, and the Fitzsimons Innovation Community – a health and life sciences district focused on established and emerging research companies and affiliated with the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus.
John was involved with supporting the Denver Office of Economic Development Global Landing Pad program and is a NZTE US Beachhead adviser. His work often bridges public and private sector interests, and he is focused on the intersection between real estate, science, technology and investment and opportunities to support New Zealand’s advancement in this regard at home and abroad.
Athfield Architects Limited is a creative, cross-disciplinary community who collaborate to produce outstanding architecture, urban design, landscapes, and interiors. With offices in Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch the 50-year-old practice has completed a significant number of workplace, civic, community and cultural infrastructure projects across New Zealand. This work informs their approach to the science, innovation and technology space where they deliver campus, workplace and research environments that build community and foster cross-disciplinary collaboration and innovation. Recent projects include master planning for the Gracefield Innovation Quarter in Lower Hutt and the Massey Innovation Complex in Albany.
