Paul Rose leads the Biotechnologies Group. He supports NZ and international companies in piloting and commercialising their innovative ideas in food products and human, animal, and natural health using bioprocessing, scale-up, and extraction technologies. Paul is driven by seeing the economic benefit and wider impact of biotechnologies both nationally and internationally.  

Paul has worked with the Biotechnologies Group for the last 15 years, first as a Principal Scientist for the Process Engineering Team and then as the Team Leader of Fermentation. He has led the Biotechnologies Group since 2023. Prior to joining Callaghan Innovation, he completed his PhD in Chemistry at the University of Leeds in the UK and later spun off a venture focused on upcycling food industry waste streams. All his previous roles have focused on creating novel products using sustainable processes that can be manufactured at scale.
